Furrukh Jabbar, MD, FACS, is a board-certified general surgeon who completed advanced fellowship training in hepatobiliary, foregut, and minimally invasive GI surgery. His clinical work focuses on robotic surgery for abdominal cancers and complex digestive diseases. He also participates in surgical education with North Texas general surgery residents.
Dr. Jabbar earned his medical degree from Dow Medical College at Dow University of Health Sciences in Karachi, Pakistan, in 2005. He completed his internship at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, followed by a general surgery residency at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center.
From there, he completed an advanced fellowship (2020–2021) in hepatobiliary and foregut surgery at AdventHealth Tampa’s Digestive Health Institute. The fellowship was under the direction of Iswanto Sucandy, MD, FACS, Director of Hepatobiliary Surgery, and focused on high-volume robotic management of liver, pancreas, bile duct, and complex foregut disease.
Dr. Jabbar participates in surgical education with North Texas general surgery residents.
His educational work includes collaboration with residents participating in North Texas surgical training programs.
Dr. Jabbar speaks English, Hindi, Punjabi, and Urdu.
A surgical consultation in Dr. Jabbar’s office usually starts with the imaging and the pathology on the screen, then moves through the relevant medical history, the other treatments the patient is receiving, and what the patient needs to understand to make a decision. The conversation is in plain language, and family members are welcome in the room. When the disease and anatomy allow a minimally invasive approach, that is generally what gets recommended.
